TAMIYA DT-02 "SUPER FIGHTER G"

New Tamiya "Super fighter G" has clean sleek appearance.
Generally, its shape looks cool. But I felt some childish expression about it. Who needs this kind of Anime's mechanical design? It is not a wit but a kidding.
Children are not as foolish as some planners think.
They are supplementing lacking reality or necessity with their imagination. And I think no children will consent if there are no stories ( Anime or Manga ) about this strange detail of its both sides. At one time Tamiya said "They're not a toy" R/C car is. Really? I hope seriously the next one should be not a toy's look.

Please remember Tamiya is the leading company of the plastic model in the world. Most of customers may be satisfied by its well-polished surface without paint at all. Even if you don't spend much time, you'll get easily beautiful finish. Vivid graphics sticker is included.

All body parts are made of paintable ABS resin. ( acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene )
Wing, engine and exaust pipes. Its structure seem delicate but well reinforced.

Of course, it seems to be too heavy for racing. Its own weight is over 4oz.

Still, it shows superb handling because supported by the high performance chassis with a high potentiality.

Traditional "Star dish" 2.2 in. rims put on 3 libs straight-groove tyres on front, and stud tyres on rear.

If you need replacement, Pro-line or some high performance tyres are available.

For example, in this case, attached the "Spier spikes" of DF-02.

DT-02 shows "wide and low" profile well, from front view
and it proves own design came from the old good Tamiya tradition.

Sure, this kit includes a driver-figure.

Bearings

14 ball bearings ( 1150 size).

See-through clear tranny made of Lexan (Polycarbonate) .

Unique plastic material gears in this transmission are all 0.8mm (32) pitch module for high durability.

Standard pinion gear is 17T and total gear ratio is 9.28:1 .

at optional 19T pinion, it's 8.3:1.

If fully ball bearings equipped on your DT-02, can use more powerful motor without risk.

Gears are strong enough, so not break down easily.

So problem is only the cooling.

Tamiya may release some kind of heatsink for DT-02 user soon.

DT-02's bathtub is more rigid than DF-02's, in constructional view.

Battery can exchange easily, with alligator-type hatch.

Its side view looks like high-end buggy rightly. The position equipped with radio and ESC are also very low.

The bottom is flat completely.
And, the side goes up to don't touch on the ground as much as possible.

At the front, DT-02 has double wishbone independent suspension system with long span, heavy duty fully H-type suspension arms.

Friction damper is standard.
this DF-02 Anodized aluminum damper or CVA mini-2 damper are optional.

I am using #200 oil and three holes piston because aluminum damper is too effective for DT-02.

This spring is std. Because DT-02 has no optional-spring of a proper rate and length yet.

But they are developing now "2WD hop-up spring", and will release by summer.

I am using OP-488 Adjustable Teflon ball

for damper end. This parts is really suitable for replacement.

Its rear section. This is the most evolutionally point of DT-01 to DT-02.
DT-02's high performance is realized by this independent rear suspension system with double wishbone.

Rear Uprights is attached in toe-in, both the angle is about 2 degrees each.

Of course, friction damper is at standard condition.

this DF-02 Anodized aluminum damper or CVA short-2 damper are suitable.

I am using #300 oil and three holes piston.

About Aluminum damper, shortening by 8.0mm is better.

Ride-hight when the state of all equipment is this.

 

Please look carefully. 
front wheel is turned to toe-in along with the movement of the suspension.  but handling is steady.

DT-02 chassis brings quite sharp feeling. Even at the standard Mabuch RS-540SH motor, it shows  sharp acceleration and strong traction by rear overhang motor layout and smooth tranny. 
You'll be impressed by high stability, controlable handling and smooth ride with high performance suspension and low gravity chassis.

I worried about the position of the standard antenna. 
There is a possibility trouble by the noise occurs when naturally wiring for the electric cable. 

I transferred the standard antenna to this position. 

A TB-02R's Antenna post and 3*10mm flat-head-screw.

I made a hole to bathtub for install. 
Processing was easy because its material is ABS.
